The Street Performers

During the trip, I've seen many different street performers. Some of these people make their living just doing street acts. I've seen some where it's just someone with a guitar playing along the street with a hat out for collecting money, to whole bands.
On Sunday's along the Yarra River is the Sunday Market. This is a market of locally made arts and crafts. There are a lot of really cool and unique things there. There is also several performers doing different tricks from juggling knives, to gymnastics, to a guy who did his finale by laying on a bed of nails with another guy standing on this chest. They're very entertaining. And when it's over, you drop a few dollars into their hat.
There was one performer that we ran into yesterday that was one of the most unique I've seen. Check it out:

This was really cool. The guy would stand perfectly still like a statue, and then when someone put a coin in his hat, he would 'come to life'. He reminded me of Mr Tumnus the fawn from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Melbourne At Night

Melbourne is a very pretty city at night. There is a lot of nightlife going on. One very cool place is called "Southbank". It's the south bank of the Yarra River, which runs through the town. On any given night you can go to Southbank, enjoy dinner on the patio of dozens of restauants, and many nights there are street performers. One sight to see is at the Crown Casino. The have these huge pillars along the walk, and at night they shoot HUGE balls fo fire into the air.
We took a trip down to see them, but we didn't wait long enough - I'll have to go back and get pics of that later. But, TeachingMom did get some really cool pics of the river at night.

This shot is looking north-east, back towards the city.

This shot is looking north. Just to the left of this pic is the Melbourne Aquarium.

Another shot looking north. The building is the Australian Immigration Museum. It's Sorta like Ellis Island for Australia.

Anyway, just a short post. I'll get some more pics up and most posts.
There are more pics available - check out http://picasaweb.google.com/jcrawford2000
